The Assessment of Catechesis/Religious Education (ACRE) test has been developed by the National Catholic Educational Association to measure students’ knowledge of religion in 5th and 8th grades. The purpose of this standardized test is to: serve as a tool for assessing the effectiveness of religious education instruction; offer a picture of where students in 5th and 8th grades are in terms of their basic religious knowledge; assess the religious beliefs, attitudes, practices and perceptions of students in these grades in addition to an evaluation of their religious knowledge; and to provide information about areas of strengths and areas that may need additional attention or improvement.
